Nothing is better for your body and for your soul than hiking in nature; simply being part of something bigger than yourself.

Cynthia and I found these boots in a second hand store in downtown El Progreso for a few dollars (I think $15) and I was instantly in love.  A few days later I decided to break them in as we hiked the three miles up into the mountains to work for the day.  Needless to say that was not the best way to familiarize these new boots with my feet.  Even before we reached our destination my feet were swelling and blistered and while work was done that day I was not the one doing any of it, my feet hurt so much I could barely walk.

Many miles have been navigated together since that first mountain hike, but more importantly are the people that they have carried me to meet.  Today they rested on the foot pegs of my motorcycle down the interstate to the job that God provided for me to be able to begin this next chapter in my journey.  I am here in the USA once again for a short time to regroup and gather resources to enable me to continue working, living and learning with the beautiful people of Honduras, yet now I find serenity in my daily routine at work.  Moving furniture and mopping floors holds a new beauty as I encounter people as beautiful and in need of Christ’s salvation as my brothers and sisters in Central America.

So tonight I sit and recall the many miles traveled in these old boots.  As I clean and oil them I recall the many cups of coffee shared with friends like Miguel Angel, meals shared with my Miqueas home family and coming back home to family here in Florida and for all of these I give thanks to God.  My prayer as I care for these old boots is that I will always be ready for the path that is made for me and when it does curve that I will steadfastly fix my eyes on Him who is able to keep me from falling.
