Clay & Cynthia

Walking in Mt. Celaque, week 38

“Clay, I’m going to bed, my stomach hurts!”

“Contractions?”

“No, its weird but its not labor, I’m sure of it”

After about 30 minutes I decided to ask again how she was doing (I have been annoying her because every little pain I have been convinced there is something wrong and I need to call the doctor.) She was still in pain so I did call the doctor.
“Write down the frequency and how long the pains last”

They came every couple of minutes but only lasted 10 seconds so the doctor told us to come into her office just to be sure that there was no danger as tomorrow we planned to make the 4-hour trek back   towards the big city San Pedro Sula to wait for the baby.

Upon examining Cynthia and listening to the baby’s heartbeat the doc told us “ I don’t want you to panic, but this is an emergency, I need you to get into your truck and drive as fast as you can to the nearest city Santa Rosa de Copan to the hospital we have to take the baby out NOW if we are to save his life.”

1:15am

Cynthia and I made the 50-minute drive in Ol’ Green (our truck) in about 30 minutes and actually beat some of the hospital staff in Santa Rosa there by about 20 minutes.
Thankfully we only saw 1 other car on the road the whole way there because I had to use the entirety of the road up and down and around all the mountain curves to make good time.

2:15 am

They have Cynthia on the table and begin with anesthesia while I stand helplessly by never having been so afraid or prayed so much in my life.

2:53 am

The doctors pull Matthew out and cut the cord, which commences him to screaming his lungs out!!! (This was scary but good as all the doctors and nurses begun to laugh and let out a sigh of relief!  Now on to see to mommy!)

After 36 hours in the hospital we left and drove home with our son both Mommy and Baby doing well!

We parked Ol’ Green and went inside for lunch and when I got back into the truck to run downtown

to get some more groceries the truck refused to turn on come to find out that there is a short circuit in the wiring to the water pump.

If at any point before that moment that little wire would have shorted out we may be living a very different story right now instead of this…

God is so good to us!

Now to find the short and try to get it fixed.

But it is one not soon forgotten… here are a few pics of our little angel!
